Please join us next Tuesday evening, May 17, at 6 PM at the World Financial Center for the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Start! Wall Street Run and Heart Walk (http://www.heartwalknyc.org).

Last year, with your help, Columbia raised about $28,000 for the AHA/ASA (more than any hospital in NYC!), and this year we are hoping to do even better.

Four reasons to support the AHA/ASA and Heart Walk:

1. Columbia receives over $5 million in research funding from AHA, more than any other institution in New York State, and more than twice that received by any other institution in NYC.

2. With the opening of our new Heart Center, we are in a position to increase our visibility substantially, and a strong presence at the Heart Walk will demonstrate to the AHA, our patients, and the city our commitment to vascular medicine.

3. The AHA has introduced a new campaign to encourage a focus on health (rather than merely disease), and participation in this Run/Walk is a great way for us to show our support for that and get all of us thinking about healthy behaviors, which is crucial for both our patients and ourselves. (see http://mylifecheck.heart.org).

4. Get a free NYPH/CUMC tee shirt!

Please take a moment NOW to register your own fundraising page and get started sending emails requesting support. If you can't walk, please consider donating...every dollar counts! You can also forward this information to your friends and co-workers to have them sign up to join a team and begin recruiting and fundraising:

1. Visit http://www.heartwalknyc.org and click on "Register" at the top of the home page.

2. Select "I agree" on the waiver, and the "Join a Team" option.

3. Click on the down arrow to view a list of participating companies and select "NewYork-Presbyterian" and then the "Columbia University Medical Center" option. Choose from among the available teams.

4. Complete the registration information and when done, be sure to log in to visit your own personal web page where you can share your story, upload photos, and send e-mails to friends and family requesting donations in support of your efforts using the templates provided.

SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY!
