The Cerebral Localization Laboratory of the Neurological Institute, Department of Neurology, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, is a clinical research unit dedicated to the investigation of the behavioral manifestations of stroke and related vascular diseases. Established in 1994 by Dr. Ronald Lazar and Dr. Randolph Marshall, ongoing interdepartmental collaborations include investigations of language, visual-spatial, memory and attentional function using specially-designed computers at the bedside, operating room, and as outpatients. Correlations between cerebrovascular physiology, hemodynamics and behavior are sought with the collaboration of investigators in neuroanesthesiology, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology. Our research goals are centered on the investigation of brain plasticity, particularly the ability of the brain to compensate for injury. Research opportunities exist for residents, post-residency fellows and medical students.
